Ethics Speaker Series

Come join us for the 2015-16 Ethics Speaker Series, a trio of talks to help kick off the new UO Ethics Minor. These talks are designed to give interested students a snappy and informed overview of a core ethical issue facing society today. These events will run on the normal classroom schedule and will last for 50 minutes. There will also be opportunity afterward to meet with our speakers and UO faculty working in ethics at informational open houses for the Ethics Minor.

Wed Nov 18 – Erin Tarver (Oxford College of Emory University) on Sports Ethics
– “On the Particular Racism of Native American Mascots.”
– McKenzie 221, 1:00-2:00 pm
– Plus an ethics minor open house with refreshments from 3:30-5:00 pm in Susan Campbell Hall second floor

Tues Jan 19 – Shannon Vallor (Santa Clara University and President of the Society for the Philosophy of Technology) on Technology Ethics
– “Techno-moral Virtue: How to Live Well with Emerging Technologies.”
– Knight Browsing Room, 12:00-1:00 pm
– Plus an ethics minor open house w/ refreshments afterward until 1:30 pm

Tues May 17 – Lorraine Code (York University) on Environmental Ethics
– “Knowing Ethically, Thinking Ecologically”
