Assistant Professor in Latinx and/or Decolonial Philosophy

The University of Oregon Department of Philosophy invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Latinx and/or Decolonial Philosophy, to begin in Fall 2022. The candidate must also have knowledge in the history of philosophy, and in particular be qualified to teach two or more figures in Modern Philosophy and/or 19th-century Philosophy at the graduate level. Additional teaching areas which the department would like to build on include Critical Theory, Decolonial Feminism, Philosophy of Race, and Philosophy of Science.

We are a diverse and growing department with strengths in Continental Philosophy, American & Pragmatist Philosophy, Feminist Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Ethics, Social & Political Philosophy, Environmental Philosophy, the Philosophy of Technology and other areas. We are interested in scholars who will enhance the department’s existing strengths in Latin American Philosophy, Decolonial/Postcolonial Philosophy, Critical Race Theory, Feminist Philosophy, the History of Philosophy, American & Pragmatist Philosophy, and/or Continental Philosophy.

The University of Oregon is on the academic quarter system, and the default teaching load is five courses across three terms each year. Research and teaching expectations are high. Teaching expectations include introductory, middle-level, and advanced undergraduate courses, graduate teaching in the area/s of specialization and competence, mentoring of graduate student research at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels, directing undergraduate and M.A. theses, as well as chairing or being part of dissertation committees. The department’s faculty keeps a dynamic, expanding, and high level of research and publications nationally and internationally. Service is also taken as a substantial part of faculty duties and responsibilities. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
