The minimum requirements for a minor in philosophy are 24 hours of work in philosophy with grades of C- or better, including 16 of the hours in upper-division courses.

No more than 8 hours of the 24 may be taken pass/no pass.

The 16 hour requirement must include three terms from the History of Philosophy (Philosophy 310, 311, 312), and four credit hours on the works of specific authors, that is, one "Authors" course (e.g., Aristotle, Descartes, James, Wittgenstein). Students please note that the history sequences are prerequisites for the "Author" courses (consult catalog for details) and that the latter are open to juniors and seniors only. Careful advance planning is essential.

To declare a philosophy major or minor, come to the department office, 338 PLC, to complete the declaration form (Undergraduate Request for Addition or Deletion of Major/Minor/Professional Objective). This form will need to be signed by a Philosophy Department Adviser.
