CHECKLIST FOR DISSERTATION PROSPECTUS APPROVAL
Upon passing Comprehensive Exams, graduate students are required to prepare a formal dissertation prospectus. The prospectus should be submitted to the dissertation committee chair within three months after advancement to candidacy
but in no case later than six months before completion of the dissertation. The same deadline is required by the Graduate School for approving the dissertation committee.
The prospectus must be approved by the Philosophy Dissertation Committee members before the student will be authorized to register for PHIL 603 Dissertation. Students working toward a Ph.D. must register for a minimum total of 18 credit hours in Phil 603 Dissertation; with departmental and Graduate School approval, up to 6 of the 18 credit hours may be in Phil 601 Research.
